Final Design Project Ideals

My goal is to design a holdables that link with Lake Erie and protect. Based on the research on Lake Erie. The snake problem in Lake Erie is worrying. Also Because to the millions of people that living around Lake Erie, the Environment problem at Lake Erie is going really serious.

So the ideal of snake is my starting ideal of my product. The snake remind me of shape of DNA, and the Rod of Asclepius. This is a breakthrough for me. Because the Rod of Asclepius is where I got the walking stick ideal from. Then the ideal of making a walking stick got me think about the journey and Protection. This two ideal really domestic the whole pieces.

Begin from the Journey. When I think about the research on the Lake Erie, the millions of people that could represent the Human Civilization. And the walking stick is like a recording media for the Human Civilization. It cowbind with Nature.

After the ideal been set. Then I begin to looking for the Materials, I fine a Tree trunk. I decided to use it as the main body of the walking stick. And I use Woolen thread and wire wrap them together on the top of the walking sticks represent began of the Human civilization. I try to warp the top of the walking stick like ancient people made their weapon. To make it look like a protections (A weapon).

In this part I have done some research on Carlo Bugatti's 'Throne Chair'. The “Throne Chair” is made of walnut and blackened wood, and inlayed with pewter, copper, brass and bone details. With hammered copper reliefs and calfskin upholstery. It's a product that mixture with different culture. This weapon and culture ideal made me add more Woolen thread on the top of the walking stick make it look like Chinese Spear (Qiang). Also the Woolen thread on the top of the walking stick, it can bring the sense of movement like water when it flow it on air.

Then next part of the walking stick. I have choose newspaper and tape to represent the Modern time of the human civilizations. Because I think it's a great ideal to use Traditional media (newspaper) as the reference to the current state of a society guided by public opinion. I add a element of fire into the second body part. Because Fire is the first condition of human civilisation, but it also represents war and destruction. So I burned some part of the newspaper away.

Last part of my piece. Is the next state of our Human civilization. It's unknow, so I left a little bit of burn mark in the bottom of the walking stick. Like leave a open ending to the people who really mind the details.

In Conclusion. I am really happy that all the research come together really well. And there is few more materials I want to use next time.

For example:

Wire Mesh (Protect)
cigarette butts (Civilization symbol)
